As the 2024/25 NHL season continues, so too does the ongoing Canucks drama. From feud rumours to intensifying rivalries, can the Canucks keep it together to get to the playoffs?
From a performance perspective, the Canucks currently sit in the wild-card spot of their division (Jan 30). They have the potential to retain that that 4th spot and keep the Flames out but they are in a vulnerable position. It’s no secret Pettersson is underperforming this season and both fans and teammates are frustrated by that. Thatcher Demko hasn’t been the same post injury and it seems J.T Miller just wants to get out of Vancouver. Their offensive failures and haunt them as they record the 12th fewest goals in the NHL this season. Quinn Hughes seems to be carrying the team on his back but it’s too heavy a load for one person to bear.
Aside from their performance on the ice, Canucks drama continues off the ice. This week Canucks General manager Jim Rutherford commented on the current feud rumors saying;
“I felt like for a long time that there was a solution here because everybody has worked on it, including the parties involved. But it only gets resolved for a short period of time and then it festers again and so it certainly appears like there’s not a good solution that would keep this group together.”
So it seems like there isn’t a road forward for this current Canucks team. Can they put their differences aside to see out the rest of the season and perform like we know they can? We’ll have to wait and see.
