As we look ahead to the big game, it’s clear that the key to victory will be possession. So who’ll win? Find out in our Women’s World Cup Final prediction.

Women’s World Cup Final Prediction

These two teams have a history, having met last summer at the Euros. While England ultimately prevailed in that match, Spain dominated the first half. Spain has been the better-possession team throughout the World Cup, averaging an impressive 70% of the ball in their six games. This isn’t just mindless possession either, as Spain has scored a tournament-leading 16 goals, with over 80% of their touches coming in the middle or final third of the pitch. Their strong possession game has also served as their best defense, allowing them to concede the fewest goals of any team that advanced beyond the group stage.

In order for England to secure a win, they will need to put pressure on Spain by playing an aggressive style of football. The Lionesses are known for their ability to cause turnovers, ranking third in the World Cup. Similar to Sweden’s style of play in the semi-finals, England should aim to catch Spain off guard by attacking on the counter. Though returning striker Lauren James will give their offense a boost, England must make the most out of their limited chances. It’s expected to be a closely contested match; however, Spain’s offensive depth and ability to maintain possession may give them an edge.

Prediction: Spain
