As the PWHL prepares to drop the puck in its second season, all eyes are on a new class of rookies eager to make their mark. With fresh talent and energy, these newcomers are ready to bring their skills to the ice and show fans what they’re made of. It will be exciting to see how they gel with the league’s veterans and what unique contributions they’ll bring to their teams.
Here are some of the top rookies to keep an eye on this season:
Sarah Fillier – New York Sirens
The number one overall draft pick, Sarah Fillier, is known for her exceptional scoring ability. The Canadian forward made waves at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where she helped lead Team Canada to a gold medal, scoring eight goals and adding three assists in 11 games. Fillier is ready to bring that same fire to the PWHL. “Playing in the PWHL will be a dream come true, and I cannot wait to make New York my home,” Fillier said. Fans can expect Fillier to make an immediate impact on the ice and in front of the passionate Sirens crowd.
Danielle Serdachny – Ottawa Charge
The second overall pick in the draft, Danielle Serdachny, is poised for a breakout season. Coming off a standout college career, where she scored 22 goals and had 39 assists in her final season, Serdachny has already proven herself at the highest levels, including with Canada’s national team. She’s in a great position to play important minutes and could be a strong contender for Rookie of the Year. With the Ottawa Charge fans behind her, she’ll have the chance to make a huge impact this season.
Izzy Daniel – Toronto Sceptres
Izzy Daniel enters the league as a third-round draft pick with much to prove. During her final college season, Daniel impressed with 21 goals and 38 assists in 34 games. She may be considered an underrated rookie, but her raw talent is undeniable, and she’s poised to surprise fans and opponents alike. Expect Daniel to have a breakout year with the Sceptres.
Other notable rookies to watch this season include Claire Thompson (MIN), Cayla Barnes (MTL), and Hannah Bilka (BOS), all of whom could also be strong contenders for Rookie of the Year honours in 2025.
