Well, the 2025 Stanley Cup Final is in the books, and the Florida Panthers are the champions! They clinched their second straight title with a dominant 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6.
For Oilers fans, this one stings. Again. After a strong performance in the playoffs, fueled by the dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, they just couldn’t break through the Panthers’ defense and the incredible performance of Panthers’ goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. The Oilers were looking to bring the Cup back to Canada for the first time since 1993 – a 32-year drought that only continues.
Game 6: A Reinhart Masterclass
Sam Reinhart had a night for the ages, scoring a whopping four goals for the Panthers! It was a performance for the history books, as he became only the sixth player ever to achieve this in a Stanley Cup Final game, and the first since Maurice Richard in 1957.
Reinhart opened the scoring with a beautiful individual effort 4:36 into the game, followed by Matthew Tkachuk at 17:05, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead. 2nd Period: Reinhart struck again at 17:31, extending the lead to 3-0. 3rd Period: Reinhart completed his hat trick, with an empty-netter at 13:26, followed by another empty-net goal at 14:55. Vasily Podkolzin scored a late consolation goal for the Oilers at 15:18, spoiling Bobrovsky’s shutout bid.
Bobrovsky was a wall in net, making 28 saves and shutting down the Oilers’ non-existent offense. The Panthers’ defense was equally impressive, limiting McDavid and Draisaitl’s scoring chances.
What’s Next for the Oilers?
The Oilers have a lot to be proud of. They battled hard, but they’ll need to regroup and come back stronger next season. With McDavid and Draisaitl in their prime, their window for a championship is still open. But they’ll need to find a way to overcome the Panthers’ dominance.
Another year, another heartbreak for Canadian hockey fans, and another Stanley Cup for the Florida Panthers! But there’s always next year.
