The Edmonton Oilers, down 2-1 in the series against the Florida Panthers, pulled off a comeback for the ages, winning a nail-biting Game 4, 5-4 in overtime! If you’ve been following our predictions on social media you’ll know we were 4 for 5 last night, the only one that didn’t come true was a Marchand goal.
Game 4 Breakdown;
Things looked bleak for the Oilers in the first period. The Panthers came out blazing, with Matthew Tkachuk netting two goals and Anton Lundell adding another, putting Florida up 3-0. That’s when the Oilers made a change, pulling starting goalie Stuart Skinner for Calvin Pickard, who absolutely stood on his head for the rest of the game, stopping 22 of 23 shots faced. Definitely the right call!
The second period was for the Oilers. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins kicked off the comeback with a power-play goal. Then Darnell Nurse fired one past Sergei Bobrovsky, and Vasily Podkolzin tied it up. The score was knotted at 3-3 heading into the third.
In the third, Jake Walman, with just over six minutes left, giving the Oilers their first lead of the night! But the Panthers, not to be outdone, tied it with a mere 19.5 seconds left, thanks to Sam Reinhart. Overtime, just as we predicted.
And who else but Leon Draisaitl to score the winning goal? He buried the game-winner at 11:18 into the extra time, making it his fourth overtime goal this playoff run – an NHL record! What a moment! Draisaitl also added two assists on the night, cementing his status as a playoff legend. Connor McDavid chipped in with an assist, showcasing his playmaking brilliance.
So, the series is now tied 2-2 as we head back to Edmonton for Game 5. This Stanley Cup Final is proving to be an absolute rollercoaster of emotions, and we are here for every single twist and turn!
