What a game it was for the Oilers who beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3 – 0 sending shock waves through the hockey community. They now lead the series 3 – 1. This has created a sense of both shock and hope especially in Edmonton at the possibility of redemption after last years Stanley Cup loss to the Panthers.
From the beginning it was clear that the Oilers had a renewed sense of urgency following a loss in game 3. They scored 2 goals within the first 15 minutes. “The guys were dialled in tonight,” said head coach Kris Knoblauch. “They knew it was a big game. There was huge disappointment from Game 3, with the way we played and the way it ended. They knew they had to step it up tonight. I’ve said it to the team several times, when they play like that, most nights we’re going to win. We feel very confident in our team.”
Evander Kane, a key player in this game with a goal, an assist and a team-leading six hits noted; “We wanted to have a good start, it gets our crowd involved, it gets everybody feeling good. And from a hockey perspective it wears other teams down and keeps guys on their toes out there. We got some turnovers off of that.”
The series is now the Oilers’ to close and breeze their way to a Conference Final where they’ll meet either the Winnipeg Jets or Dallas Stars. If the Oilers played every game like they played this one, they have the potential to secure a Stanley Cup Final spot.
With this new and welcomed energy from the Oilers, the only thing that could stop them is themselves. Will the Oilers secure their first Stanley Cup since 1990? We’d back them!
