NHL Trade Deadline Recap

The trade deadline has officially passed and what a rollercoaster it was. There were some pretty shocking moments (we’re talking about you Brad Marchand) and we are here to recap the biggest signings and trades.

Brad Marchand traded to Florida Panthers

Probably one of the most surprising trades from Friday’s trade deadline was seeing the Boston Bruins trade captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers. This was in exchange for a conditional second-round pick but will retain 50% of Marchand’s contract. Marchand had been a Bruin for his entire career, so seeing him come out in Florida gear was strange for everyone to see. Apparently what led to the break-up was that the Bruins just weren’t willing to pay what Marchand felt was in the range of market value.

Mikko Rantanen traded to Dallas Stars

His second time being traded in 42 days, Rantanen was traded to the Stars in exchange for Logan Stankoven, conditional 2026 first-round pick, conditional 2028 first-round pick, 2026 third-round pick, 2027 third-round pick.

Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche in January, a situation that quickly changed into another trade. This saw the Hurricanes shipping Rantanen to the Dallas Stars on NHL Trade Deadline Day after the Finnish forward refused to sign long-term in Raleigh.

Dylan Cozens heading to the Ottawa Senators

Dylan Cozens might have been the most talked about trade target heading into the deadline, with rumored talks between the Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Canucks and Red Wings all trying to sign him. However it was the Senators who closed the deal and got Cozens, Dennis Gilbert and the 2024 second round pick in exchange for Josh Norris and Jacob Bernard-Docker. It’s being said that this trade is a symbol of the change and progression the Senators are dedicated to making.

Toronto Maple Leafs acquire Brandon Carlo

A win for the Maple Leafs acquiring Brandon Carlo from the Bruins. The 28-year-old Carolo has one more year on his contract, which carries a $4.1 AAV through 2025-26 however, the Bruins agreed to retain 15 % of Carlo’s contract as part of the deal.

Seth Jones joins the Panthers

The Panthers had only good things to say about this Trade with Panthers general manager Bill Zito saying, “He has been one of the most consistent players of the past decade serving as a reliable workhorse on both sides of the puck, and he will help our club continue to compete at the highest level.” In return for Jones, the Blackhawks acquire Spencer Knight,  2026 or 2027 first-round pick, and will retain 26 per cent of Jones’ contract.

Luke Schenn Traded to the Penguins and then to the Jets

A busy week for Luke Schenn who was involved in 2 trades. First being traded from Nashville to the Second-round pick (2026) and Fourth-round pick (2027).

Brock Nelson Traded to Colorado Avalanche

Brock Nelson was traded to the Colorado Avalanche by the New York Islanders on Thursday for defenseman Oliver Kylington, forward prospect Calum Ritchie, a conditional first-round pick in the 2026 Draft, and a conditional third-round pick in the 2028 Draft.

This is the tip of the iceberg of what has happened over the last week but these trades are sure to mix things up for the rest of the season before the Playoffs kick off soon.
