National Championship Preview

Can TCU shock the college football world and take down the Bulldogs?

The College Football National Championship is tonight! The game will feature the top-seeded Georgia Bulldogs and the feisty and surprising TCU Horned Frogs. Hours before kickoff, the Bulldogs are 13.5-point favorites while the over/under is set at 61.5 points.

Bulldogs

Georgia comes into the National Championship with just one loss in the last two years. Despite having 15 players on last year’s roster leave for the NFL draft, the Bulldogs have remained on top of the college football world all season with a tremendous defence and an efficient offence. With Stetson Bennett at the helm, they’ll look to become the first school to win consecutive titles since Alabama did it in 2010 and 2011.

To make it happen, they’ll have to bounce back from a rough defensive effort last week against Ohio State. Georgia’s secondary had a tough time containing the Buckeyes’ receivers and with Quentin Johnston lining up against them, they’ll have their hands full once again. At this point, the Bulldogs should expect a decent day offensively, but if TCU forces a shootout like they did last week with Michigan, they can beat anyone in the NCAA.

Horned Frogs

For No.3 TCU, it’s all about keeping the magic going for four more quarters in this National Championship. All year, they’ve defied the odds and won close games as underdogs, but tonight will truly be their toughest test of the season. If they’re going to win this game, it’s going to be because of their offence.

Unfortunately for the Horned Frogs, they’ll likely be without the full service of starting RB Kendre Miller if he can even play at all. Miller sprained his right MCL in last week’s game against the Wolverines and was reportedly at just 50% health two days ago. If he can’t be out there, Emari Demercado is next in line. Demercado proved himself in the second half of last week’s game but has only had ten or more carries three times this season. In the pass game, Max Duggan will be looking for the previously mentioned Quentin Johnston all day. Johnston is the top WR in this year’s draft class and will need to be a difference maker for the Horned Frogs if they want to move the ball against Georgia’s defence.

National Championship Pick

TCU has been underestimated all season and tonight may be no different. After hanging 51 on Michigan last weekend, the offence must be a very confident unit coming into tonight’s game. It’s tough to pick against Georgia straight up, but we’ll take the Horned Frogs to cover the 13.5-point spread tonight and keep it close.

TCU +13.5
