Football’s Super Sunday

It was an incredible Sunday of football yesterday that included some of the most dramatic finishes and mind-boggling plays we’ve seen in a long time. Let’s go over some of the highlights.

World Cup Final

Was this the best World Cup Final ever? Quite possibly. Two of the best players on the planet went back and forth all the way to penalty kicks in the world’s biggest sporting event. Kylian Mbappe scored all three goals for France on Sunday while Lionel Messi scored two for Argentina before the Argentinians ultimately won their first title since 1986.

It looked as if the game was just about out of reach for France before Mbappe converted two goals in just under 100 seconds in the 80th and 81st minute to tie the game. After that, in extra time, both superstars scored again while both goalkeepers made some fantastic saves to keep their teams alive. At 23 years old, Mbappe will certainly get his shot at redemption, but it was 35-year-old Messi’s time on Sunday as the soccer legend captured his first World Cup in what was most likely his last tournament appearance.

NFL Football

Just as the World Cup finished on Sunday, it was time for the NFL games to get underway. Although the league could never match the drama of the finale of the world’s biggest sporting tournament, Week 15 in the NFL certainly brought the heat. Out of eleven games on Sunday, nine finished as one-score games. Two went into overtime, two finished with a field goal attempt, and two were won with walk-off defensive touchdowns. Sunday finished with drama too, as the Washington Commanders fell to the New York Giants in the dying seconds of Sunday Night Football after a pair of very questionable refereeing decisions went in New York’s favor.

Check out all the craziest finishes from Sunday right here:

Gonzalo Montiel scores the World Cup clinching goal for Argentina
Chandler Jones intercepts a lateral pass and takes it back for a game-winning touchdown
The Jaguars finish off a huge second half comeback with a pick six in overtime
Terry McLaurin gets called for illegal formation, taking a Commanders touchdown off the board with one minute left.
