Tonight, the Eagles and Chiefs meet for a massive Super Bowl rematch on Monday Night Football! The teams are currently both at the top of their respective conferences and a win tonight will solidify the winner as the team to beat in the NFL. As the home side, the Chiefs are 2.5-point favorites, while the over/under is set at 45.5.
The Eagles
The defending NFC champions bring the league’s best record into Arrowhead tonight, and they’ll need to be their very best to add another game to the win column. Without Dallas Goedert in the lineup, expect to see a lot of throws towards A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Brown has been one of the best receivers in the league this year and has already eclipsed over 1000 yards receiving, while Smith is one of the best second options in the NFL. For Philly to beat Kansas City’s tough defence, they’ll need the passing game to be humming.
On defence, the Eagles will need a big game from their secondary. Despite finding ways to win, the unit has been torched in back-to-back games by Sam Howell and Dak Prescott. The defensive line has been great, but they’ll need to get to Mahomes quick tonight because the secondary hasn’t just been bad, they’ve been hurt too. If Mahomes is given a lot of time to throw the ball, he could become the third straight QB to pass for more than 370 yards against the Birds.
The Chiefs
It’s been a bit of a different year in Kansas City this season, but the wins have continued to mount up. In the last six campaigns, Andy Reid’s Chiefs have ranked in the top six in both yards and points per game on offence. This year, they rank 8th and 11th. Patrick Mahomes hasn’t always looked like his dominant self, but the receivers haven’t given him any help, and that’s where the problems lie. When Travis Kelce is taken away, I don’t think anyone really knows who Mahomes’ next favorite option is. However, the Chiefs are still the Chiefs, and right now, they’re the favorites to win the AFC.
A lot of that is thanks to their defence. This side of the ball has been statistically very average for Kansas City in the last six years, but this season, they rank in the top four in both yards and points allowed. Two weeks ago, they held the Dolphins to just fourteen points in Frankfurt, and they’ll be looking for another great performance against a top offence tonight at home. If there’s one person they’ll need to watch tonight, it’s A.J. Brown. Brown has been able to take games over this year, and if they don’t contain him, he could be the difference tonight.
Eagles and Chiefs – The Pick
Tonight’s tilt between the Eagles and Chiefs could be the game of the year. There’s a reason that these teams met in the Super Bowl last season, and I don’t expect either one to roll over in any way. Both have had some tough moments this year, but no teams are better at finding ways to win. I expect this one to be a tightly contested affair all the way through, but if I had to pick a team, I’d take the home side Chiefs. Arrowhead’s crowd will be a massive factor, and Kansas City’s defence may be the best unit of any in the game tonight.
