The 49ers and Seahawks meet in Seattle tonight to kick off Week 15 in the NFL with an NFC West rivalry game. There’s a lot on the line for both teams tonight and the visitors come into the contest as 3.5-point favorites while the over/under is set at 43.5.
The Teams
For the Niners, tonight is a great opportunity to punch a ticket into the playoffs. With the win, they’ll become just the second team in the league to clinch a spot in the postseason and the first to lock up a division title. Brock Purdy will be starting at quarterback despite some injury concerns earlier in the week. The rookie quarterback has looked great in his almost two games of action so far but tonight will be his first game outside of San Francisco in a very tough place to play. For the Niners, the focus tonight must be Christian McCaffrey. Seattle’s run defence looked terrible last week against Carolina and CMC is a different beast altogether. If he isn’t slowed down early in the game, the Niners could cruise to their sixth straight win tonight.
On the other sideline are the Seahawks, looking to avoid their fourth loss in five games. Last week’s loss against Carolina was a crushing defeat in a game they should be winning if they want to be a playoff team. For tonight, the defence needs to be much better than they’ve been recently in all parts of the game. With how good San Francisco is defensively, Seattle won’t be able to rely on Geno Smith and the offence to put up a ton of points, even with Kenneth Walker back in the lineup. Fortunately, the team will have the 12s in their corner. Seattle is always a tough place to play, but the excitement at Lumen Field goes through the roof in divisional rivalry games with playoff implications on the line. Expect a very hostile crowd for Brock Purdy and Co.
49ers and Seahawks – The Pick
Although Seattle has had San Francisco’s number over the years in this rivalry, the Niners may just be too good for the Seahawks right now. Look for them to expose Seattle defensively and limit Geno’s ability in the pass game with their rock solid defence. Tonight, we’re going against the statistics and betting against the home underdogs in a divisional game.
