Top NHL Moments This Week

Top NHL Moments This Week

This truly is the best time of the year for hockey fans. Last week we saw some amazing moments and records being set. While teams are still battling it out for playoff spots, we are counting down the top moments from last week.

1. Alex Ovechkin becomes greatest goal scorer of all time

The Gr8 Chase officially ended on Sunday when we saw Alex Ovechkin finally beat Gretzky’s goal scoring record against the New York Islanders. After tying the record on Friday night, and refusing the opportunity to score an empty netter, Ovi waited for his chance and got it on Sunday. You can watch the clip of Ovi scoring the goal here. Chills!

2. Cale Makar scored 30th goal this season.

Cale Makar became the first defensemen to score 30 goals in a season since Mike Green in the 2008/09 season. Makar has been undoubtedly one of the, if not the top defensemen this season with a whopping 78 points earned so far this season.

3. Leon Draisaitl Reaches 50 goal mark

Leon Draisaitl has been a powerhouse this season and is the top goal scorer in the league. Last week he scored his 50th goal against the Calgary Flames. Ovechkin may be the greatest goal scorer of all time, but Draisaitl is the greatest goal scorer this season.

4. Lane Hutson Rookie Record

Lane Hutson is having one of the rookie defensemen seasons in NHL history. He’s now tied with Chris Chelios for the most points in a season by a Canadiens rookie defenceman by earning his 64th point against the Nashville Predators on Sunday. Hutson is probably the strongest contender for the Calder Trophy this season.

5. St. Louis Blues set franchise record with 12 consecutive wins

For the first time in their 57-year history, the St. Louis Blues have a 12-game winning streak. The club set a new franchise record with Saturday’s 5-4 win against the Avalanche. The Blues’ 12-game winning streak is the longest in the NHL this season. It may have ended on Sunday with a loss to the Jets, but it’s just another great record set this season.
